dining. awarded three and one half stars for his previous effort at san francisco's pair, executive chef eric hopfinger bring a pacific rim sensibility to the lifestyles of the mission district. the menu celebrates california's harvest of seafood and vegetables. dishes are small, to be shared and combined, highlighting texture, flavor, and skill.

location. an oasis of light and sound, butterfly inhabits a large warehouse on the border of mission and soma, at a major crossroads between the city's commercial, office, and residential districts. butterfly anchors an emerging entertainment and food destination. a block to the south the mission armory is being converted to a 220,000 square foot incubator for new internet companies. a half block north a 240 unit residential project is under construction.
